Postproduction, Editorial, and Sound Design Wraps for Indy Film, Moleman. Advanced Chicago Screening August 28th.
August 2010
Resolution Digital Studios and Zombie Army Productions present a special advanced screening of a Big Tree Productions movie “The Mole Man of Belmont Avenue” at Chicago’s acclaimed Music Box Theatre on Saturday, August 28th 2010.
The film was written by, directed by, and stars Chicago natives, Mike Bradecich and John La Flamboy. It also features a noted cast, including actors from Chicago’s Second City, and Nightmare on Elm Street’s horror icon, Robert Englund. The quirky story, in combination with the talented cast, won the interest of Resolution’s executive producers, Lee Facklis, Jeff Facklis, and Mitch Apley.
The Moleman of Belmont Avenue shot in Chicago over 19 days during July 2009. The film is a horror/comedy that tells the story of what happens when a terrible situation is dropped into the laps of two brothers who are least prepared to deal with it.
When Marion and Jarmon Mugg’s mother died, she left the brothers an apartment building that had been in the family since its days as a prohibition speakeasy. In the short time since inheriting the property, they managed to run the building into the ground. Tenants are moving out. Only they and their friends drink at the bar on the ground floor. Pets from the building are strangely disappearing. And if all that isn’t enough, there’s also a good chance that a monster is living in the basement.
Initially, Resolution’s Editor, Dustin Foster cut a trailer for the film. The resulting cut proved to earn the confidence of Bradecich and La Flamboy which paved the way for Foster to step in and cut the feature over a six week period. With Bradecich in L.A., and La Flamboy simultaneously building one of the mainstays of Chicago-area ghoulish attractions—the Statesville Haunted Prison—the three convened via FTP, exchanging feedback and edits.
In addition to editorial work, Resolution also provided audio postproduction services for the film. Bryen Hensley was the supervising sound editor, handling all dialog, ADR and re-recording. Steve Maslan was the lead sound effects editor and sound designer, editing all the sound effects, backgrounds, and was also the film’s Foley artist.
Resolution’s Jeff Tudor was the technical producer for the project, overseeing production and managing equipment and master tapes. To keep the process moving seamlessly, Tudor and Hensley split the Post Production Supervisory duties.
While Resolution staff was instrumental throughout the postproduction phase of the project, the filmmakers also looked to the studio to provide production equipment during the actual filming. Camera gear, monitors, field audio equipment, as well as lighting and grip equipment were supplied by Resolution.
Tickets for the August 28th screening are only $10.00! For more information, contact the Music Box Theatre at 3733 N Southport Ave. or visit the Music Box Theatre's website. Doors open at 9:30pm. Film rolls at 10:00pm. After the movie, there will be a Q & A with Bradecich and La Flamboy, as well as crew members and various cast members.
