Editorial and Audio Postproduction for Documentary-style MSNBC TV Show, The Squeeze

December 2009

20 West’s The Squeeze is a new documentary-style TV show that follows along as local law enforcement and criminal intelligence investigators go inside America’s largest jail, Chicago’s Cook County Jail. The post-production department at Resolution Digital Studios worked on the premiere episodes of the series. Resolution’s editorial department handled elements of episode one: Editor, Dustin Foster provided all the color correction, while Scott Sutter did the HD conform. In addition, Resolution’s lead sound designer, Bryen Hensley provided all the sweetening and final broadcast mix for the first three episodes.

The show was particularly challenging from an audio standpoint because it’s a lot of fast paced, run-and-gun footage so the audio work took considerable time. Also, since many individuals in the shows are active informants, particular attention was paid to disguising the voices to make them unrecognizable, but still understandable. The shows are fast paced and gritty with wall-to-wall music which really sets the mood and tempo.
